Z793. 1st Year Production B. W. Raymond Keywind! Yes, this is an early National Watch Co. keywind and keyset pocket watch. Serial number is very low, "No. 4872", which is 1st year of production, 1867. This company eventually became the Elgin National Watch Co. The movement is 18 size and marked "B. W. Raymond, Burt's Patent, Elgin, Ill." This has large jewels and gold balance wheel screws. The number of jewels is not marked, but this appears to be 15 jewels, very high grade for it's age. The movement gilt is a little bit splotchy, but the movement is otherwise in good condition with a few light handling marks. The dial is marked National Watch Co. and is excellent. Two very faint and very short hairlines run from the center hole to the top of the seconds bit, and another from the bottom of the seconds bit to the edge. These are very minor. There is also a small edge chip under the bezel. No problems of any significance to this fine original dial. This movement is housed in a Fahys No. 1 Coin, 3 ounce silver open face case. The case is excellent with normal even wear, no dents, gold hinges, and nice thick glass beveled crystal. The case has a nice even patina. I do not polish old watch cases. A key is included with this watch. The movement has been cleaned and oiled and does run quite well $499 |

Z798. Nice Big 18 Size Antique Waltham Pocket Watch. This is an antique 18 size (case diameter is 55 mm) pocket watch made by the American Waltham Watch Company. The movement has 15 jewels, fancy damascening, and a micrometer regulator for fine adjustment of the timekeeping. The movement is also marked "safety pinion". The movement condition is excellent. This movement is pendant set. This watch case is gold filled and marked "Guaranteed Twenty Years, Philadelphia Watch Case Co.". The case is screwback and screwbezel, and has an excellent glass crystal with beveled edge The case has light to moderate wear and no brass showing. This is a nice gold filled case and these are getting very hard to find in 18 size watches. The original porcelain dial is single sunk and in very nice condition. With a loupe, I can see a very, very faint hairline between 10 and 11. This is NICE Roman numeral dial! All in all, this is a very nice and representative pocket watch from about the turn of the last century. The serial number records show this movement, #16574288, dates to about 1908. $249 |

Z829. Elgin 16 Size RR Style Pocket Watch. As the age of mechanical pocket watches came to a gradual end in the 1960s and 1970s, the major US watch manufactures, including Elgin, started selling high quality Swiss movements in American made cases. This Elgin is an example. The watch is 16 size (case diameter 52 mm), pendant set, and has 17 jewels. The movement is Swiss and marked unadjusted and Elgin 324. Underneath the balance, the movement is also marked Unitas 6431 and 6435, which are the Swiss grade numbers. The watch is pendant set and runs strong. The dial is typical railroad Montgomery style with all the minutes marked, and every fifth minute marked in red instead of black. The dial is a painted or plasticized finish and looks great, however, in reflected light, there are some scuff marks on the dial. You won't see these unless you go looking for them. Nice dial. The original case was made by the Star Watch Case Co. and is marked 4006 along with a serial number. The outside bottom edge is marked Elgin, 10K RGP. The case is excellent with very little wear, and no brass. This is a classic railroad style case. This is a very nice, late model pocket watch from the late 1960s or early 1970s. This watch was not accepted for railroad use in the US, but may have been allowed for use on the Mexican railroads and in other countries, which had different standards. Regardless, a nice watch for collection or use. $195 |

Original porcelain dial is excellent, but does have a single, super short hairline below the seconds bit and virtually invisible. This is a nice watch! $149 |

B667. Scarce Waltham Exploded Watch Display! This is an early display unit designed for jewelry store use. The display consists of a 16 size Waltham Riverside movement, completely disassembled and laid out in a glass covered mahogany case. The case measures about 1 1/2" x 8" x 9 1/2". This is in excellent condition. Now, a few minor parts are missing, namely, some of the unset jewels, the regulator, and one other unknown part. The case back does unscrew so you can get inside if you want to replace these, but to be honest, very few people will every notice these few tiny parts because this is already so cool. Although this will be packed very well, one or two small pieces may come loose in shipping, so please understand that you might possibly have to do a little touching up when you receive this. But maybe not! I don't know how many of these were actually made, but they very rarely show up - most are in collections.... $349 |
